January-February in the Library

In the library we are exploring folk tales.  Kindergarten and first graders are enjoying well-known and much loved classics such as Henny Penny, The Little Red Hen, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff while second through sixth graders are exploring lesser known folk tales that originate from all parts of the world.  The students are excited and engaged.  Folk tales are among the oldest stories and have been passed from person to person and generation to generation.  From folk tales we learn about other places and times, we learn about good and admirable characteristics and we learn about ourselves.  Hearing a folk tale makes one want to retell it as a story.  In the months to come we will look at storytelling as a means to support student's learning.

The annual Scholastic Book Fair is coming!  Mark your calendars for the week of February 12-16.  The online book fair will begin even sooner.  More information on that will be forthcoming.
