March and April in the Library

As we finish a segment on biographies we turn our attention to Research Skills.  Destiny, our online research portal, provides our students with a vetted variety of resources.  In our secondary classes we will look at different ways of searching for information, gathering information, evaluating information and creating our own work from that research. Primary classes will enjoy literature with a focus on fact or opinion.
April is National Poetry Month and we will explore poetry of all types.  Did you know there are over 50 different types of poetry?  Poetry can be fun, but it is also widely recognized to help with cognitive development, language development, social and emotional development, and even physical development through coordination of breathing, and mouth and tongue movement.  Each morning on the announcements the morning reporters will share a poem. On Thursday, April 27 Sahuaro will celebrate Poem In Your Pocket Day.  We will have an opportunity to pull a copy of our favorite poem out of our pocket to share with others.  Check out the links to several great children’s poetry websites and  information on why poetry is important.
